Chicago Bears Acquire LB Darrell Taylor from Seahawks for 2025 Draft Pick

In a significant move to strengthen their defensive lineup, the Chicago Bears have acquired linebacker Darrell Taylor from the Seattle Seahawks in exchange for a 2025 draft pick. The trade, confirmed by NFL Media’s Tom Pelissero, addresses a critical need for the Bears following the departure of Matthew Judon.
Taylor, 27, was drafted by the Seahawks as a second-round pick in the 2020 NFL Draft out of Tennessee. Despite facing an injury-plagued start to his career, Taylor has established himself as a valuable pass rusher. Over 49 games and 13 starts, Taylor has accumulated 21.5 sacks, showcasing his ability to disrupt opposing offenses.
Last season, Taylor played all 17 games and made five starts. He recorded 5.5 sacks, seven tackles for loss, and eight quarterback hits. Taylor’s performance on the field underscores his potential to enhance the Bears’ pass rush, which has been a focal point for improvement.
With the Bears losing Judon, who was traded to the Falcons, Chicago’s front office, led by Ryan Poles, has been actively seeking to fill the void. The Bears initially attempted to acquire Judon from the Patriots but were unsuccessful. The trade for Taylor represents a strategic move to bolster their defensive line, partnering him with Montez Sweat to create a formidable edge-rushing duo.
Taylor’s contract with the Seahawks was a one-year deal valued at $3.1 million. While he is set to be a free agent after this season, the Bears hope to secure his services beyond this year. Taylor’s addition is expected to alleviate some of the pressure on Sweat and improve the Bears’ overall defensive performance.
The Seahawks, on the other hand, will use the 2025 draft pick to potentially strengthen other areas of their roster. Despite Taylor’s notable contributions, his role in Seattle’s defensive scheme was somewhat inconsistent, particularly in run defense. The Seahawks are now focused on refining their roster with additional moves, including trading veteran cornerback Mike Jackson to the Carolina Panthers.
As the NFL season progresses, both teams will be monitoring the impact of this trade closely. For the Bears, Taylor’s performance will be critical in their efforts to enhance their defensive capabilities. For the Seahawks, the trade opens opportunities for other players and future draft assets.
